Why in couples therapy?
Many couples argue about daily irritations. It turns out that only a practical solution is usually not enough. During a relationship crisis, emotions can run high and it's hard to see exactly what you've gotten yourself into. Then it helps to investigate together with a therapist which interaction patterns, fears and needs are at play and how to tackle them.

How useful is couples therapy?
About 75 percent of clients benefit from couples therapy. They are more satisfied with their relationship, experience more bonding with their partner, were nicer to each other and were able to divide the daily tasks better.

What does couples therapy look like?
EFT stands for Emotionally Focused Therapy, developed by Sue Johnson. With this method you learn to better understand your own and each other's feelings and fears. This will slowly make you connect to each other again. An important step is to examine which interaction patterns hold you back and then break them. As you gain more insight into your own needs and learn to ask for support and understanding from each other, a new basis can be created to move forward together.

What if my partner doesn't like couples therapy?
Even if your partner is not thrilled at first, a non-binding introduction can help to discuss doubts or remove prejudices. Some commitment is of course necessary, couples therapy is hard work and can yield a lot. If one of you has already decided to end the relationship, couples therapy is no longer useful, but a short course can be used to break up well, especially if there are children.

How long does couples therapy last?
Sessions last 75 minutes and usually a lot of improvement is achieved after 6 to 10 sessions. My goal is as short as possible, but as long as necessary. Off course, you have a decisive voice in this.

Is relationship therapy reimbursed?
Couples therapy is not reimbursed in the basic healthcare insurance. If you have additional insurance, a part is sometimes reimbursed. Check this yourself with your health insurance company. Usually you have to pay for couples therapy yourself. You can see it as an investment in yourself, in your relationship and in your future (together or alone).
